Work Locomotion exists to advocate for, support, and teach working people.
We champion the realization of human potential and the pursuit of meaningful work, grounded in the belief that people are image-bearers—participants in generative creation and maintenance through their labour.
We believe that work is not merely a function of the economy, but a domain where people become more fully themselves—where potential is discovered, developed, and reified through real contribution.
Perspective and Praxis
At its heart, Work Locomotion is both a perspective and a practice—a way of seeing work, and a way of shaping it.
We begin with the conviction that work is sacred. It is not just what we do, but where we come to know who we are. Through the structure, demands, and relationships of work, people encounter their own values, talents, and capacities—and are invited to grow.
From this foundation:
Work is a site of becoming. Through meaningful contribution, people develop not only skill, but identity, wisdom, and purpose.
People are participants in creation. Systems that reduce individuals to outputs obstruct growth. Systems that honour dignity create conditions for agency and alignment.
Supervision is sacred. Supervisors are more than managers—they are custodians of potential, facilitators of alignment and development. Their influence can either stifle or liberate.
Development is inseparable from context. The structure of work—its pace, purpose, language, feedback loops—shapes the kind of person one becomes through it.
Alignment is the engine of sustainable engagement. When talent, attention, values, and internal orientation correspond with the structure and demands of the work, energy is renewed rather than depleted.
Work is generative. When properly structured, work not only produces outcomes—it reproduces capacity, possibility, and meaning for others and for the future.
Advocacy
Work Locomotion advocates on behalf of working people by:
Advancing the view that people are meaning-seeking and meaning-making participants in work.
Promoting systems and structures that support flourishing, dignity, and contribution.
Challenging reductionist or instrumental paradigms that treat people as inputs rather than persons.
We also speak to policymakers, educators, and organizational leaders, advocating for environments that support development, correspondence, and meaningful contribution at scale.
Teaching and Formation
Work Locomotion teaches working people about:
The process of discovering, developing, and reifying potential—becoming more fully oneself through work.
The relationship between identity, purpose, contribution, and growth.
How to interpret and influence their own work experience through attention to key dimensions, including:
Alignment: cultivating fit between one’s talents, skills, and ways of attending—and the demands, structure, and meaning of the work. This is the foundation of vitality and contribution.
Ontological Presence: showing up as a whole person—not merely performing tasks, but acting from intention, identity, and deep awareness.
Capability Development: emphasizing growth in skill, discernment, and understanding. Work becomes a site of becoming—not just producing, but maturing.
Generativity: viewing work not only as personal output, but as the creation of conditions where others can grow. This includes shaping environments of safety, possibility, and shared meaning.
Capability and Freedom
Work Locomotion emphasizes development toward freedom—the real freedom to become, to choose, and to live a life one has reason to value.
From this perspective:
The goal is not simply employment, but empowerment.
Capabilities must be cultivated through the experience of work—not constrained by it.
Freedom is structured—and depends on environments that support agency, voice, and contribution.
Development is relational: one person’s growth often depends on another’s awareness, generosity, and guidance.
In this sense, Work Locomotion is not about getting people into jobs—it’s about creating the conditions in which they can become what they are capable of being. It is a contribution to human development, agency, and the social good.
Supervisory Influence
Work Locomotion affirms that supervisors play a pivotal role in shaping the trajectory of working people. Their presence and decisions can either create conditions for flourishing—or foreclose them.
We therefore:
Advocate for supervisor awareness of their impact on identity, motivation, and psychosocial safety.
Promote the development of supervisory skill, especially in alignment, developmental guidance, and co-responsiveness.
Encourage supervisors to see their role as a sacred trust—guiding not just output, but becoming.
Welcome to Work Locomotion.
This is a space for those who believe work can be more—for those who want to see potential realized, systems reimagined, and work become an experience of growth, generative contribution, and deepened awareness.
